I'm SinisterSwiss. I build web applications for a living and keep this little corner of the internet running for fun.
About
Software engineer, fully remote, based in Illinois. I've spent the last decade or so building web applications: React frontends, Node.js and .NET backends, Postgres underneath, and the cloud plumbing in between.
Away from client work I run a home server. This site, the status page, the git forge, and most of the infrastructure behind this domain all live on one NixOS box.
I work with AI daily. I built the tool I use: Mandate, a self-hosted agent platform (chat, tool calling, scheduled tasks, memory) that lives at ai.sinisterswiss.ch and runs on the server's GPUs. It was, fittingly, mostly built by AI.

Legacy .NET modernization
Freelance modernization for an energy company. Migrated a legacy .NET Framework app to ASP.NET Core and rebuilt the UI in React from scratch.
Nonprofit website
Freelance maintainer of a nonprofit's website: theming, a major CMS upgrade, and the server it runs on.
